The JCI World Congress 2024 is the flagship annual event of Junior Chamber International that took place from 29 October to 2 November 2024 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Held at Messe Taoyuan under the theme “Technological Innovation for a Prosperous and Sustainable Future”, the five-day congress welcomed young leaders, entrepreneurs and active citizens from around 120 countries – preceded by a Belgian-organised pretour that brought together 32 participants from 9 countries.

Before the congress: a shared journey across 9 countries
Organised by JCI Belgium, JCI Switzerland and JCI Netherlands, the pretour brought 32 participants from Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland and the Philippines together before the congress even started. The programme mixed a culture crash course, a twinning dinner, a karaoke night, a visit to TSMC, and business pitches — real conversations that turned into real connections. By the time the congress kicked off, bonds were already built, and they only grew stronger during the educational sessions and late-night parties that followed.
What is the JCI World Congress?
The JCI World Congress brings together young leaders, entrepreneurs and active citizens from more than 120 countries and territories for five days, combining leadership training, the general assembly, competitions such as the public speaking and debate finals, the TOYP awards and a cultural celebration. Belgium has hosted it before: the 66th JCI World Congress took place in Brussels in 2011 with 4,550 members from 101 member organisations. Read more in the history of JCI Belgium.
Why Taoyuan?
Taoyuan is a technology and industry hub, which made innovation a natural theme. The Taoyuan City Government promoted the congress as a chance to strengthen cooperation in the technology industry and youth entrepreneurship, and President Lai Ching-te received members of the international and Taiwanese organising committee in July 2024. At the congress, Taiwan’s Vice President delivered the keynote address.
The programme: innovation, debate and business
The programme mixed exhibitions and conferences with keynote speeches, workshops and debates, and added business negotiation meetings connecting young entrepreneurs across borders. Delegates were also encouraged to look beyond the venue, from cultural visits to a bouldering bingo competition for climbers of all levels.
