The possibilities and opportunities are very broad, which doesn’t always make it easy to explain to new members what JCI is. On the other hand, this ensures that JCI is a network with a large variety of profiles and learning opportunities. Both those who focus more on social engagement and those who are more business-oriented find their place in JCI.

Numerous top entrepreneurs and politicians from around the world are (former) members, some examples:

  • The legendary American President John F Kennedy was a proud JCI member and even had our organization’s logo embroidered on his chair in the Oval Office;
  • Prince Albert of Monaco is a proud honorary member;
  • UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon honed his diplomatic skills at JCI,
  • as did our former Minister of Defense Steven Vandeput.

Under the motto “one year, one man, one job,” responsibilities are rotated annually from local to international level. This gives everyone the chance to engage as motivated young professionals in roles such as board member, committee director, or even president. All of this happens in a safe environment with optimal guidance from more experienced members.

Thanks to our own Training Institute Flanders, we offer our members a wide range of courses, trainings, and workshops that emphasize personal development and sharpening business skills. The trainers are a combination of internal, certified JCI trainers and external experts who are happy to share their knowledge with our members. Through the experiences members share with each other, they go through a growth process together and intense friendships are formed that invariably last longer than the duration of membership. You meet interesting people or personalities that you wouldn’t come into contact with in your daily routine. Even couples have been finding each other for generations at JCI.

The unique committee and project work in which our members engage ensures that young high potentials gradually develop into real leaders and entrepreneurs. Through a combination of our leadership trajectories, coaching, and daily operations, members learn to work together in teams with a common goal and specific task distributions.

Be inspired by our projects: Successful JCI projects from the past

The world of JCI goes beyond one’s own backyard. Our members are actively encouraged to move outside their familiar region. Besides activities of other Belgian chapters that can be joined, there are also annual overarching events such as the Flemish and National congresses. These are supplemented with foreign European and World congresses and numerous international contacts are stimulated.

Within JCI, it’s well-known that the seasoned members have been increasingly present at European Congresses in recent years!

Our members have their hearts in the right place and actively engage in giving back to the community. Whether it’s supporting a local charity or aiding projects in less fortunate countries; as a partner organization of the United Nations, our members actively commit themselves to helping others.

What differentiates JCI from average business and service associations is that we prefer to build a project around it that goes far beyond a benefit. We prefer to roll up our sleeves and consider if we can do more or something different than just raising money.

JCI members naturally have a lot of entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of ambition. Through intense collaborations, you build a sustainable and broad network of professionals from all possible sectors. Over the years, several JCI members have started businesses together or helped each other secure good jobs.

The bow doesn’t always need to be taut. The young wolves at JCI know this too, and they’re not shy about taking over the dance floor at a congress gala or making a cultural discovery with their local chapter. Every chapter has some activities where fun is central, and some organize playful team-building events. There are countless parties and fun activities where a great atmosphere always develops.

Life for young professionals is already expensive enough. Through partnerships, JCI can offer its members some financial benefits. Additionally, JCI activities and events are offered at the most democratic prices possible, starting with the membership itself.

Perhaps a recognizable statement? What an advantage if you get this sentence as an argument, then you can immediately promote trainings like time management. Apparently, JCI can already mean something for this potential candidate.

Then the next step, how to explain what JCI stands for? If you’re now thinking ‘What JCI is, that’s the best-kept secret!’, then we strongly advise you to adjust your 2026 resolutions.

JCI is incredibly broad in possibilities, and yes, we can understand that it’s challenging to explain JCI in an ‘elevator pitch’ manner. We also admit that it can be a completely different story for everyone due to those many possibilities.
